The New Leaf Liberals are a group of Ontario Liberals who came together to advocate for a stronger Ontario Liberal Party. We recently released The Path Forward: Our Vision for the Ontario Liberal Party, and have asked all the OLP Leadership Candidates for their signature on the following pledge to renew our party:
The New Leaf Pledge for Party Renewal
If elected Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, I pledge to:
- Empower the members. Building a party in which members are consistently informed about what the party is doing in their name, routinely consulted on policy, and given real channels to identify local issues and shape the Party's direction. Every Ontario Liberal will have a path to grow within the OLP — from first-time volunteer to PLA executive or candidate.
- Empower the PLAs and Regions. Building a Party in which every PLA — in strongholds and in ridings the Party has never held — is equipped with the tools, and provided the training, and central support to lead in its community year-round. PLAs will have access to modern and effective tools available for communicating, sharing best practices, and collecting local insights. PLAs will have real insight into and ability to shape the party organization's direction, and our governing bodies will operate on predictable, supported schedules that let members plan around them.
- Move towards openness by default in Party communications. Regular published updates to members on central decisions, including the reasoning behind them. Better year-round member communications covering strategy, outreach results, and internal improvements — not just election-time contact.
- Grow Operational Excellence in an Accountable Party Organization. Building a Party organization that continually improves its operations and is transparent with and accountable to the Provincial Council and the membership. Operational excellence, modern tooling, professional staffing, and transparent fundraising will be the standard; constitutional change will be less mediated and more open; Party policy and our plan for Ontario will be a consensus, not a decree.
- Develop Modern and Localized Outreach and prioritize our People. We owe it to Ontarians to be excellent. Excellent in the way we run our organization, in how we manage internal elections and nominations, and how we develop and nurture our talent. Without our members, and by extension our volunteers and staff — we can't deliver the change in government we need so desperately in Ontario.
